December 2008
What’s New
December is the month when the church holds several
extra services relating to Christmas. It is always difficult to find times
for worship which suit people who are very much involved in the life and
work of the community, particularly during this season, and this year
changes have been made to our usual pattern of services.
Saturday 20 December
Beginning at 5pm,
‘Pitlochry’s
Christmas Present’ will be enacted. This is a street Nativity Play
starting outside the Baptist Church, continuing at various locations in the
town and ending at the Church of Scotland. It will last about 1 hour and
afterwards there will be refreshments in The Tryst. All four denominations
in the town are taking part and the aim is to take the Christmas message to
those outside the church.
Sunday 21 December
Morning Worship at 10.30am will take the form of Lessons and
Carols, led by the church choir. Afterwards there will be coffee and
mince pies in The Tryst.
Tuesday 23 December
At 1.15pm there will be ‘Silent Night’ – a Quiet Christmas
Service. This is a special service for those who find that bereavement,
or other reasons, mean that the relentless jollification of Christmas is too
much to take. It is a quiet 30 minute service with plenty of space and
silence, followed by a cup of tea in the church for those who wish to stay
on.
Christmas Eve
At 11.30pm in our church the Watchnight Service will be a
joint service with members of the Baptist Church. There will be a retiring
offering for a charitable cause to be announced nearer the time. The
service will also be broadcast live on Heartland FM, the local radio
station.
Christmas Day
At 10.30am a short service of worship for all ages will be held
in the church.
